News  Florida Fellows Class V institute the Warm Coats, Warm Hearts drive

February 03, 2010

TALLAHASSEE - Below-freezing weather is rare in Florida even in its northernmost counties, but that's exactly what the state has dealt with on several occasions this winter. On January 5, Governor Charlie Crist even had to declare a state of emergency. Even when temperatures haven't been freezing, they certainly have been colder than the norm. That's why the Florida Fellows Class V instituted the Warm Coats, Warm Hearts drive as their January community service project. Fellow Terin Barbas, one of the project organizers, said the coat drive was very successful. It provided coats for the needy served by agencies that included the Haven of Rest Rescue Mission, the Refuge House domestic violence center and the Tallahassee-Leon Shelter.
