Commissioner Albert Jones Names Torey Alston Chief of Staff for District 9
Broward County Commissioner Albert C. Jones today announced Torey L. Alston will serve as Chief of Staff for his office beginning March 1, 2010.
"Torey's experience as a state agency director for two programs along with his roots in Broward has prepared him well to lead our office," said County Commissioner Albert Jones. "Torey is a visionary leader and has fresh, innovative ideas and will serve the people of District 9 well." Read more.

R. Jai Gillum Appointed to Florida Commission on the Status of Women by CFO Sink
TALLAHASSEE - Florida CFO Alex Sink today announced her appointment of R. Jai Gillum to the Florida Commission on the Status of Women. Gillum, who began her term on January 1, 2010 and will serve until December 31, 2013, is 31 years old and the youngest woman currently on the commission. She joins other CFO appointees Shellie Sachs Levin and Monica Russo. Read more.

Gubernatorial Fellows Visit the State Emergency Operations Center
On Monday, the 2009-2010 class of Gubernatorial Fellows visited the State Emergency Operations Center during the Level 1 activation for Hurricane Ida. The Fellows got to see first-hand the state's response to the impending storm, including the roles their agencies play as members of the State Emergency Response Team. Read more.
Governor Crist Re-launches Gubernatorial Fellowship Web Site,
Invites College and University Students to Apply
TALLAHASSEE - Governor Charlie Crist today re-launched the Gubernatorial Fellows Web site and invited college and university students to apply for the 2010-11 Gubernatorial Fellows program. Participation in the program provides Florida college and university students with firsthand, high-level experience and insight into how government operates. Established in 2004 and endowed by Al and Dawn Hoffman in 2005, the program gives Florida college and university students the unique opportunity to work alongside state government's top staff for two semesters.
"No work is more rewarding than public service, and I applaud the 59 Fellows during the past five years who have learned more about how government works," said Governor Crist. "I invite college students throughout the Sunshine State to consider a career in public service and explore the opportunities available through the Gubernatorial Fellows program." Read more.
Florida Fellows Learn About National Guard Straight From the Source
TALLAHASSEE - The Class V Florida Gubernatorial Fellows were "wheels up" by 0730, climbing aboard a C-23 Sherpa aircraft to visit our Florida National Guard at work. This fifth class of Florida Fellows landed 50 minutes later in St. Augustine, where they met with military leaders and learned more about the Guard's role during state emergencies, such as hurricanes. TALLAHASSEE - Governor Charlie Crist today announced the members of the fifth class of the Gubernatorial Fellowship Program. Students participating in the program will gain first-hand experience into how state government operates.
